Print over 3 million titles or any author manuscript within minutes
Amsterdam – The American Book Center (ABC) is the first
bookstore in the Netherlands or continental Europe to offer a revolutionary
printing and publishing service with the introduction of the Espresso
Book Machine on September 25, 2010. This machine
prints, covers, binds and trims any book selected from a database of over 3
million titles or any author manuscript
- in library quality with a full-colour paperback cover – within a few
minutes while you wait and watch.
Revolutionary Service
Lynn Kaplanian, director of the ABC is very proud to
introduce this groundbreaking invention to the Dutch/European market: “I
have been dreaming about this moment for a long time! We are delighted to
install our first Espresso Book
Machine in the White Room of the ABC in Amsterdam. “ Recently, Google
and On Demand Books, LLC, the inventor of the Espresso Book Machine, signed an
agreement to offer its patrons immediate access to over 1,5 million
public-domain titles in the Google digital files. Even more recently, Google
agreed to digitalize 160,000 boks from the Royal Dutch Library. “This
unprecedented number of reading options is in addition to another 1,6 million
titles which will be available within minutes at the American Book Center through our
Espresso Book Machine”, says Kaplanian.
Introduction of AnyBook Press
ABC will offer a number of printing and publishing
services utilizing her Espresso Book Machine: “Basically
anyone who wrote a book or wants to print out his genealogy, for example, just
needs to bring it along formatted on memory stick, CD-ROM or any other
electronic source and within minutes the book can be printed and published
under our new label AnyBook Press,” says Lynn Kaplanian.
AnyBook Award for writing/illustration competition
To mark September 25th as the start of this
revolution and to prove how simple it is to make a book on the machine, the ABC introduces the AnyBook
Award, a writing/illustration competition in cooperation with PICNIC. Everyone is
invited to submit original work for the first AnyBook Press title to be
printed on ABC’s Espresso Book Machine. The theme of the anthology
of winning submissions is Redesign the World, which is the
theme of this year’s PICNIC conference from Sept. 22-24,
2010 at the Westergasfabriek.
The book will be presented on September 24th at PICNIC to Jason Epstein,
co-founder of the Espresso Book Machine company, author, publisher and
co-founder of the New York Review of Books. For more details check (www.AnyBookAward.com).
